What is Material Data Safety Sheets (MSDS)?

The Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) is a document containing information on potential hazards (health, fire, reactivity and the environment) and how to use chemical products safely. The MSDS is an important starting point for the development of the health and safety program. In addition, the MSDS contains information on handling, storage, handling and emergency procedures related to the hazards of chemical materials.

MSDS documents have been created for a variety of hazardous materials, including compressed gases, flammable and combustible liquids, oxidizing materials, toxic or infectious materials, corrosive materials, and hazardous reactive materials. MSDS should be prepared by experts who are experts in their field. It is possible with MSDS documents to explain what the hazards of the product are, how to use the product safely, what to expect if the recommendations are not followed, what to do if an accident occurs, how to recognize signs of overexposure and what to do in this case.

The MSDS document explains the safety precautions to be taken to minimize and prevent the negative consequences that may arise from improper storage or transportation of a dangerous substance, and the chemical safety and hazards that may be associated with the product. The MSDS form also aims to explain to workers and emergency personnel the ways and safety precautions to handle hazardous materials safely.

Chemical manufacturers and importers are required to obtain or develop a Material Safety Data Sheet for each hazardous chemical they manufacture or import. Distributors are responsible for providing their customers with a copy of these MSDS pages. Employers should have an MSDS data sheet for each hazardous substance they use. Employers must be able to rely on information received from their suppliers.

The important sections that should be included in the MSDS document are:
